Apple has rewritten its TrueType font hinting interpreter from C to memory-safe Swift for its Fall 2025 releases, resulting in a 13% performance boost and improved protection against untrusted font data. Apple also published the source code for the new interpreter to help other developers undertaking similar memory-safety migrations.
