A developer created a new tool called mcpgrade to evaluate the practical usability of popular MCP servers for AI agents. The assessment demonstrated that strict specification compliance does not guarantee an agent can successfully use the server. After testing 36 widely used platforms, the evaluation found that a full third received failing D or F grades.
