A persistent Windows tracking mechanism known as GDID can uniquely identify users even when they route their traffic through a VPN, recently helping to get a hacker caught. Researchers have since investigated the tracker in a virtual environment, releasing specific scripts and techniques to neutralize it and protect user privacy.
